On 17 December 2022, a conference entitled. “Opole power plant – what next? The future of Opole power plant in the context of the EU Energy Policy”.
The conference was held in the Auditorium of the Opole University of Technology. The DEsire project was represented by Prof. Łukasz Bartela, who delivered a presentation entitled. “Coal-to-Nuclear as a transformation path for the energy sector in Poland”. The conference was attended by members of the European Parliament, representatives of the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Atomic Energy Agency. Also present were representatives of local government, science and business.
During the conference, the future of the Opole Power Plant was discussed in the light of the policy to move away from coal. There was a discussion on the possibility of building nuclear units in locations suitable for the currently operating coal-fired power plants, especially in the context of potentially carrying out such an investment at the Opole Power Plant in the future.
